Pharmaceutical Sales Jobs
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is finding a pharmaceutical sales job difficult?
It doesn't have to be. There are proven methods for securing your first pharmaceutical job and building a sales career in the industry. They include doing the right kind of networking, preparing a resume tailored to pharmaceutical companies, being well-versed in the companies' histories, revenues, indications and pipeline, and preparing for the specific questions you'll face when interviewing with the RIGHT answers. Anne Clayton's best-selling book, Insight into a Career in Pharmaceutical Sales, will lead you through every single step.
Q. I don't have any experience in a pharmaceutical job. I've never been in a medical field--I've never even been in sales. Can I still find a pharmaceutical sales job?
Yes. One of the things that makes pharmaceutical sales so appealing is that almost any work experience or background is applicable, as long as you've earned a 4-year college degree. The most important requirement is the desire for a rewarding job in the pharmaceutical industry and the willingness to uncover the employment opportunities that are right for you. Our book and FREE E-Mail Help Line will give you the guidance and advice you need as you seek your entry-level pharmaceutical sales job. All advertised positions will ask for a year or two of business-to-business sales experience to reduce the response rate, but candidates secure offers without sales experience. Read a few samples of the hundreds of success stories Anne has received.

Q. Do companies hire new college graduates for pharmaceutical sales jobs? Which companies hire new graduates?
There is no simple answer that says which companies do or do not hire new graduates. But there are many that do. It often depends more on the District Manager’s preferences and the individual candidate’s qualifications than an overall company policy. Yes, it is more of a challenge, but how do you know which companies do and which don’t? The best way is to uncover any and all opportunities in your area and find out for yourself. A good networking strategy is the key to successful pharmaceutical sales job hunting. This strategy is described in detail in our book.
Q. What are some of the important things I should know when pursuing a pharmaceutical sales job?
There are many aspects to finding the right entry-level job opportunity in pharmaceutical sales. They include:
- Networking with pharmaceutical industry professionals in your area ("it's not who you know, but who you learn to know")
- Researching the top pharmaceutical manufacturers with diligence
- Uncovering hidden job opportunities in your geographic area

In addition to the extremely high value of Anne's personal help, you should know that the First Edition of Insight into a Career in Pharmaceutical Sales was the first book published solely for the pharmaceutical sales job candidate when it was copyrighted in 1998. Anne Clayton developed the first Web site for pharmaceutical candidates and the first Email Help Line. Now, nearly eight years later, Anne Clayton is still the only author writing from senior management level perspective. In other words, Anne Clayton has done the hiring, interviewing literally hundreds of candidates over 30 years. This experience is augmented with a vast network of current managers and executives over numerous pharmaceutical concerns today that is unequaled. Imitations of Anne's book (while flattering) are written by former and current field pharmaceutical representatives, with little interview experience (except being a candidate). Finally, Anne backs her work with a full money back (including all your shipping and handling) guarantee -- she does not even ask you to return the book. See the Anne Clayton guarantee on the home page and throughout the site.
Q, I do not have a four year degree, can I still obtain a position as a pharmaceutical sales representative?
There have been exceptions, but it is very rare. A candidate needs a four-year degree. Common degrees include Marketing, Business, Management, Communications, and the Sciences. Any four-year degree will suffice, but having that degree is almost mandatory today. It will pay you dividends for the rest of your and your family's life -- try to make it your priority. Visit some local colleges and universities, who will offer you numerous options (both financial and time) to try to meet your needs.
Q. How can I contact Anne Clayton and PharmaceuticalSales.com, Inc.?
The only way to contact Anne Clayton and PharmaceuticalSales.com is via e-mail or US mail.
